Joshua Choi,MFT Trainee
Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee
Hello, I’m Josh! I’m a Marriage and Family Therapy trainee and student at National University. While I may still be relatively new to mental health and have a lot to learn and grow professionally, there is a life principle that a mentor once told me many years ago that I have come to learn is true in every aspect of life: people do not really care how much you know until they know how much you care.
My experiences, especially as an Army veteran, have taught me that there is more to just caring. Sometimes we can mean the best for someone but not be able to reach their inner person. True care is learning to understand someone at a deeper level, being able to walk beside them through whatever they are going through, to share in the experience even if you haven’t experienced it yourself. In the military, we called it camaraderie. In therapy, it is the partnership and collaboration between therapist and client.
While I am by no means an expert at this, it is something I strive for always and what I can bring for you. Regardless of why you are here or what struggles you are facing, I hope that therapy helps redirect your life to a path that enables healing, renewed hope, and empowerment like it did for me.
